Tax update: Evasion, avoidance, and compliance

The government remains committed to tackling tax evasion and avoidance, aggressive tax planning and non-compliance, including those seeking to evade or avoid tax using offshore structures.

Since 2010 the government has secured almost £160 billion in additional tax revenue and, alongside the Autumn Budget, has published details of over 100 measures it has introduced*.

In the Autumn Budget 2017, the government announced 18 measures and additional investment in HMRC to tackle avoidance, evasion, and non-compliance. Together these are forecast to raise an additional £4.8 billion between now and 2022-23.

If you are concerned about a tax enquiry into your affairs, worried that you may have possibly under-declared or, worse still, are you already under enquiry, our tax specialists, some of whom are former HMRC Inspector of Taxes, are well versed in dealing with all types of tax issues. We are also readily available to oversee HMRC disputes on your behalf, as well as to represent clients in appeal proceedings before the Tax Tribunal. In some situations we can also offer professional fee protection insurance, so the costs are covered in whole or in part.

For more information and to discuss your tax affairs in further detail, please contact Alan Ford or your usual Beavis Morgan Partner.
