Biggest barriers for startups this year and beyond

At a recent dinner for entrepreneurs of successful UK startups and previous winners of the Startups Awards, recognising the best of UK entrepreneurial talent, ten business founders were asked what they considered to be the biggest obstacles for them in the next year, and how they plan to overcome them and thrive. Whilst it isn't always easy when faced with barriers, what was reassuring was that, irrespective of industry, sector or business lifestage, all ten startups questioned said they faced similar problems. These included:

  1. Access to finance
  2. Remaining focussed
  3. Attracting more customers
  4. Building a strong team
  5. Standing out from the competition and dealing with competitors

From getting your business idea off the ground and setting your business strategy, to raising finance, managing your business, recruiting and retaining the right team members and attracting customers, there are a number of challenges every startup founder/leader is likely to face in the process of starting and growing a business.
