HMRC publishes list of most optimistic expense claims

HMRC has released a list of some of the most outlandish expense claims submitted by taxpayers.

The latest list of expenses that customers tried to claim back on their 2014-15 Self Assessment returns include "Pet food for a Shih Tzu ‘guard dog'", "Armani jeans as protective clothing for painter and decorator" and "Underwear – for personal use".

Other optimistic claims included “Holiday flights to the Caribbean” and “Luxury watches as Christmas gifts for staff – from a company with no employees".

There are just seven days to go to the 31 January Self Assessment deadline, so don’t delay and risk a being fined. The time to submit your tax return is now.
