England Club tops Football Money League 2017

For the first time since 2005, Manchester United are back on top of the annual Football Money League with a record revenue of £515.3m, breaking the 11-year hold that Real Madrid had on the top spot.

Manchester United also became the first football team to earn more than £500m in a season.

According to a spokesperson for the report, the club’s “ability to secure commercial partnerships has been the crucial factor.”

Arsenal remains London’s highest earner at £350.4 million, followed by Chelsea (£334.6), Liverpool (£302) and Tottenham (£209.2).

Looking ahead, the post-Referendum fall in Sterling against the Euro may make it difficult for Manchester United to retain their position against Barcelona (£463.8m) and Real Madrid (£463.8m) in 2018.

The annual report, which is in its 20th year of profiling the highest revenue generating clubs in world football, measures a club's earnings from matchday revenue, broadcast rights and commercial sources, but excludes transfer fees.
