Budget Day announced

Update: Sajid Javid, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, will no longer be delivering his Budget on 6 November 2019. This follows the government’s announcement that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will push for a general election in December 2019.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, has announced he will present his Budget to Parliament on Wednesday 6 November 2019.

This will be his first budget as Chancellor of the Exchequer and it will come just six days after the UK’s planned departure from the European Union (EU).

Mr Javid said: “I will be setting out our plan to shape the economy for the future and triggering the start of our infrastructure revolution.

“This is the right and responsible thing to do – we must get on with governing.”

The government re-confirmed yesterday that it is committed to securing a deal and leaving the EU on 31 October. In the event of no deal, Mr Javid said the Government would “take early action to support the economy, businesses and households”. This, he said, would likely push back the Budget to “the weeks thereafter”.
