R&D Tax Relief is a government incentive scheme aimed at developing scientific and technological innovation in the UK. It was introduced in 2000. Businesses can get relief of up to 33% on qualifying R&D costs, and loss-making companies may be able to exchange their losses for a payable tax credit.
