ACCA study: Accounting landscape evolving rapidly

A recent study by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has found that accountants are increasingly regarded as "trusted expert counsel and key strategic advisers".

The study entitled The Future of the Profession*, which surveyed 2,000 professional accountants and spoke to 300 leaders in every sector across 19 countries over a two year period, set out to establish what makes the 'perfect professional' in 2016 and beyond, highlighting the seven qualities for success, namely:

Technical & ethical

Emotional intelligence

Speaking at the launch of the report, Helen Brand OBE, ACCA’s chief executive said: “The accountant’s role has been revolutionised over the past decade, with finance professionals becoming leaders, trusted expert counsel and key strategic advisers to organisations whether in the public or private sectors.

“With this metamorphosis comes a requirement for a whole new set of skills. On top of technical excellence, professional accountants now require creativity, emotional intelligence and the vision to lead.”
